Extinct Animals.

ICHTHYOSAURS
Ichthyosaurs were predatory marine reptiles that swam the world's oceans while dinosaurs walked the land. They appeared in the Triassic period, dying out around 25 million years before the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs. Ichthyosaurs (literally 'fish-lizards') evolved from an as yet unidentified land reptile that moved back into the water. These huge animals rapidly diversified from being lizards with fins to developing a much more streamlined, fish-like form built for speed. One species has been calculated to have a cruising speed of 3.6 km/h. These enormous predators remained at the top of the food chain until they were replaced by the plesiosaurs.

When the Ichthyosaurs lived.
The Triassic Period.
The Triassic began after the worst mass extinction ever, at the end of the Permian. Life on Earth took a while to recover and diversify. The Triassic was characterised by heat, vast deserts and warm seas. Even the polar regions were warm, so lush forests grew there. However, the lack of other life, coupled with the period's particular environmental conditions, opened up some evolutionary opportunities. As a result, the very first mammals and dinosaurs evolved. During this time, the giant supercontinent of Pangaea began to break apart. The period ended as it had begun, with an extinction event that wiped out many species.

Coelophysis

Coelophysis were one of the earliest of the meat-eating dinosaurs from the late Triassic period. Analysis of the numerous well-preserved skeletons found in a quarry in New Mexico has suggested that Coelophysis were small, yet fast and agile predators, powered by strong hind limbs and aided by a long, slender tail. The long jaw was filled with typical meat-eater's teeth: sharp, serrated and blade-like. Small animals would have been hunted by sight as Coelophysis had relatively large eyes. So many skeletons all found together suggests they may have lived or hunted in packs.

Animals in danger of extinction.
The Iberian Eagle is in danger of extinction. There are only 150 pairs left.
Iberian lynx, PA
Road deaths are now the greatest cause of mortality for the lynx

The Iberian lynx, found only in Spain and Portugal, could become the first big cat since the sabre-toothed tiger to die out
